55 GANSEVOORT is pleased to present A thread-bare coat is armor proof against highwaymen, a felt based installation on view 24/7 from February 21st to March 6th.
Inspired by the formal and functional harmony of the kepenek -- a Turkish shepherd’s outer cloak -- Thompson has paraphrased his own after feeding felt through a photo printer.
Augustus Thompson (b. 1985, Richlands, VA) has had solo shows at Steve Turner Contemporary (Los Angeles), Still House (New York) and Inside the White Cube (London). In 2014, Thompson was included in exhibitions at the Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens (Deurle, Belgium), Fondazione Museo Pino Pascali (Polignano, Italy) and Night Gallery (Los Angeles). He will be included in an upcoming show at Zabludowicz Collection (London).
The exhibitions at 55 Gansevoort are entirely visible, at all hours, by peering through the windowed doors.
