56 Henry is pleased to participate in EXPO CHICAGO from April 7 - 10, 2022. The gallery will present six paintings by Cynthia Talmadge from the artist's Seven Sisters series.

In this series, the consortium of historically women’s colleges including Mount Holyoke, Smith, Wellesley, Bryn Mawr, Barnard, Vassar, and Radcliffe, serve as the subject of Talmadge’s continued fascination with the dark side of American cultural history. Through her Pointillist technique, Talmadge details her interest in “public facing institutions being the site of very private existential melt downs or metaphysical epiphanies.” The snowy campuses oscillate from sublime landscapes to self indulgent or threatening scenes.

Cynthia Talmadge (b. 1989, New York) holds a Bachelor of Arts in Painting from the Rhode Island School of Design. She lives and works in New York. Her work has been the subject of solo exhibitions at 56 Henry, New York, Carl Kostyal, Milan and Soft Opening, London.
