55 GANSEVOORT is pleased to announce the opening of Rand Hardy Jack in the Box, on view from April 10th through May 4th at the gallery's storefront location.

Rand Hardy graduated with a B.F.A. from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1968. After working as an assistant to Dennis Oppenheim, he exhibited in the Museum of Modern Art’s seminal 1970 “Information Show”, and was included in the 1973 Whitney Annual. He currently is showing a sculpture in the group show, “The Paradox of Sculpture” at the National Academy Museum and School.

He was a member of the adjunct faculty at New York University for 17 years and teaches Aqua-Resin workshops at the Art Students League. In the last six years he has had three one-person shows of work similar to what will be on view at 55 Gansevoort.

Hardy's painted sculptures of combined volumetric forms set up an unexpected encounter between what is viewed and that which is sensed.

The exhibitions at 55 Gansevoort are entirely visible, at all hours, by peering through the windowed doors.
